October 3, 1987 Dr. William Innes Homer University of Delaware Dear Dr. Homer: I am a first-year History of Art graduate student at Yale University. In order to defray living expenses, I am working part-time as a cataloguer for the Yale University Art Gallery in the department of American Drawings and Watercolors. While cataloging works at the Beinecke Rare Book Library, I had the rare pleasure of studying watercolors by Pamela Colman Smith. I was intruigued by her techniques and subject matter and did a small amount of research on her background. On file at Beinecke are, among other documents, a copy of her hand-colored magazine, The Green Sheaf, and Melinda Boyd Parsons' catalog, To All Believers: The Art of Pamela Colman Smith. I would like to write an essay on the life and work of this artist for a graduate seminar, 'New Art, The New Woman, and the New York Avant Garde.' I wrote to Rowland Elzea of the Delaware Art Museum for more information and he suggested that I contact the Art History department. I understand that you were Ms. Parsons' advisor and directed her Master's thesis. My professor, Dr. Susan Fillin-Yeh, suggested that you may have a copy of this thesis. Would it be possible for you to send me a photocopy? I would, of course, pay all postage and handling costs. Failing this, would it be possible for you to send me Ms. Parsons' address or telephone number? I am sure that she would be an extremely good resource. If you have any questions regarding my project and class presentation, please feel free to write or call me. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Sincerely, Theresa A. Leinier
