UNIVERSITY OF MAINE at Orono DEPARTMENT OF ART • ART GALLERY • CARNEGIE HALL • ORONO, MAINE 04473 • 207/581-7165 June 18, 1973 William I. Homer, Chairman Department of Art History Smith Hall Newark Delaware 19711 Dear Mr. Homer: I had the pleasure and honor to do a complete inventory of all of the art left in Carl Sprinchorn's studio at the time of his death. In fact, all of it is at present under my curatorship here in Orono. I know for an absolute fact that although Carl Sprinchorn was a friend of Marsden Hartley, John Marin and other distinguished New England artists that no paintings by Hartley showed up in my inventory. I believe, however, that there are correspondence — letters, articles, etc....but these have not yet been catalogued by our Special Collections Division of the Library. I hope this helps you with your research...you might be interested in the two enclosed items. Very cordially yours, Vincent Hartgen
