21 Dudley Street Presque Isle, ME 04769 July 7, 1981 William I. Homer Department of Art History University of Delaware Newark, Delaware 19711 Dear Bill, Perhaps you have heard that Norma Berger died in January. Her estate is being handled by Dane, Howe, and Brown of Boston, While this law firm is aware of my forthcoming book, I have not specifically asked to whom the literary rights of her estate fall. I have a letter of permission from her to publish the 'complete writings' of Hartley, but, my question is, what happens now that she is gone? Without wishing to stir up the lawyers investigation into the matter without some awareness of the possible outcome, I thought I would check with you to see if you have any knowledge of such procedures. Let me know if you have any ideas on the subject. Publication of the book proceeds, if somewhat slowly, I expect it will be out before the end of the year. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Gail Scott
