THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT STORRS, CONNECTICUT 06268 Telephone 203 486-4520 December 8, 1978 William Innes Homer Department of Art History University of Delaware Newark, Delaware 19711 Dear Professor Homer, We are presently organizing an exhibition entitled THE PAINTINGS OF YUN GEE, scheduled to be shown here at the Benton Museum in th.e fall of 1979. I have addressed a letter to Rowland Elzea at the Delaware Art Museum on the chance he may be interested in taking a selection of Gee's works for an exhibit there. Professor Joyce Brodsky, who is guest-curating this exhibit for us and writing the catalogue essay, has suggested your name as a possible contributor to the publication through a brief historical note or preface. While I'm aware that you probably do not know Gee's work (I've enclosed slides and sketchy biographical statement, Mrs. Brodsky feels that your contributions to the general subject of art of the period would make your writing an important adjunct to her research. I will be prepared to send you a xerox copy of Mrs. Brodsky's manuscript when it is in final form and provide you with additional photographs. Although we are unable to pay a customary fee, I can extend an honorarium not to exceed $200 for a 1,000 to 1,500 for more) word essay. We would be honored at your consent and look forward to your reply. I have sent you a copy of my VASILIEFP catalogue under separate cover to give you an idea of the quality of our endeavors. The Gee catalogue will be more modest however, only because we were unable to secure adequate funds for color reproduction. The cover will be in full color fortunately since Gee was first of all a colorist. Respectfully, Stephanie Terenzio / Assistant Director
