Biographical Note

Leo Norman Bushman (1917-2005) was an artist and a professor of art. He taught at various institutions including the University of Calgary where he was Associate Professor of Art during the time of his interview with Georgia O'Keeffe in February of 1972. He also taught and served as chair of the Drawing and Painting Department at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Bushman exhibited and lectured internationally. His work is in many collections and he was the recipient of various awards in recognition of his studio and educational work.


Scope and Contents Note

Leo N. Bushman met Georgia O'Keeffe at her home in Abiquiu, New Mexico on Tuesday February 22, 1972 for a one hour conversation. They discussed adobe construction, O'Keeffe's Abiquiu home, art, Canada, and the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe among other topics. Bushman provides a three page typed summary of the meeting.
